Title: Stan Getz & Joo Gilberto Getz / Gilberto
Year/Genre/Sub-Genre/City: 1964, World, Bossa Nova/Latin, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil / Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Matrix #: V-8545
Condition: EX, sounds great, some light marks

Cultural Facts:

  1. Band Drama: Joo Gilbertos perfectionism slowed sessions to a crawl; tension rose as Getz pushed for efficiency while Joo demanded total control.

  2. Family Ties: Astrud Gilberto, Joos wife, was not a professional singer; she was pulled in last-minute and became the breakout voice tied to the record.

  3. Band Drama: Getz kept most royalties and publishing, leaving Joo underpaid; resentment lingered for years and fractured the partnership long after release.
