This release features a selection of commissions recorded live at the New Music Shows of 2011. Acclaimed baritone Leigh Melrose opens the album with Martin Sucklings sublime Candlebird, an evocative setting of five texts by the Scottish poet Don Paterson. The remaining tracks were generated through the London Sinfoniettas innovative Writing the Future scheme, in which composers make music in close collaboration with Principal players of the ensemble three of whom feature here as soloists, in Edmund Finnis Veneer for viola and reverb, Tim Hodgkinsons The Glow and Zig-Zag for horn, and Duncan MacLeods Diesis for double bass. Two works for quintet complete the line-up: Shiva Fesharekis Valentines Rhapsody, and Zoetrope, Isambard Khroustaliovs first purely acoustic score.
