Title: Laurindo Almeida Guitar From Ipanema

Year/Genre: 1965, Bossa Nova/Jazz

Condition: NM

Description:
Released in 1965 on Capitol Records, Guitar From Ipanema reflects Brazilian guitarist Laurindo Almeidas role in bringing bossa nova into dialogue with American jazz traditions. Almeida, originally from So Paulo, had already established himself in Los Angeles as a film and session guitarist while recording his own explorations of Latin jazz. This album came at the height of the bossa nova craze, just after the international success of The Girl from Ipanema, and shows how Brazilian harmonic sophistication could be adapted for U.S. audiences. For collectors, it represents a meeting point between Hollywood studio polish and the subtle rhythmic vocabulary of Brazils most enduring musical export.
